Cartier has opened a sizable new boutique in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood on 102 Greene Street. It should be welcome news for the Big Apple’s hip and well-heeled who prefer not to travel above 14th Street for their luxury goods and will also surely lure in the multitude of year-round tourists who drop by the area for shopping and dining. It is the French jeweler’s second flagship in the city, following its iconic Fifth Avenue headquarters.
The four-story building was constructed in 1881 by architect Henry Furnbach, using the French-inspired cast-iron decor popular during the era. The interior has been outfitted to reflect the area’s more artsy, downtown aura. The space was decked to Cartier’s standards by the Paris-based architectural firm Studioparisien. High ceilings and stunning wooden staircases offer drama befitting the glamour of the maison, while mid-century modern furniture, Panthère wall murals, and custom artworks play to the SoHo neighborhood’s vibe. There are intricate straw marquetry panels by Studio François Mascarello, and a wall hanging by Atelier Antonin Anzil. The 14-foot iron door at the entrance was designed and installed by sculptor William Tarr who lived at the address in the ’60s and ’70s.

At the entrance, guests will be greeted by vitrines of jewels and handbags perched atop shelves nearly reaching the ceiling. To entertain clients, a sleek bar is located on the second floor with peridot-colored velvet bar stools and green marble, as well as lounge seating.
But plenty of other areas are designed for a good hang, including a library, living room, and dining room on the third floor. Just above is coveted N.Y.C. airspace — a terrace and rooftop garden that will open later in the spring of 2024.
The usual Cartier goods will be up for grabs, including everything from its jewelry and watches to fragrances and leather goods. However, if you are looking to snag an exclusive, the SoHo location will be the only one to offer a limited-edition Écrou bracelet in a brushed black PVD finish on rose gold with bolts adorned with 180 brilliant-cut brown diamonds.
The design was first introduced in 2017 and inspired by Cartier designer Aldo Cipullo’s Juste un Clou and Love bracelet styles, which were his idea of hardware as jewelry. It’s a natural fit—Cipullo was a fixture of N.Y.C.’s downtown scene in the ’60s and ’70s, and his designs have been enduring icons (and endless money makers) for the house ever since that era.
